Awesome New Geo Keyword Research Tool...

If you've ever tried Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, then you know this to be true...

The more targeted your keywords, the better the result.

For example, when you are first creating your keyword list, you want the list to be as big as possible. It's important to think like your customer.

What terms would your customers use to describe your products or services?

Once you've generated some appropriate keywords, you then want to get a little creative by expanding your list to include as many relevant variations as possible.

Things like alternate spellings (e.g. light, lite), plurals, and synonyms are all examples
of strategies to expand your keyword list.

Then you want to "scrub" your keyword list and get rid of any terms that maybe too
generic. Basically you want to get rid of keywords that are going to bring you
untargeted traffic.

Here's an example...

If we were advertising Harley Davidson parts, the keyword "bike" would also bring in
searches for bicycles. Obviously that's useless to us which is why you'll want to get rid of these generic terms.

There's no sense in paying for keywords that won't convert into sales!

Once you've scrubbed your list, the third step is to target your keywords by adding some
matching options.

Using phrase, exact, or negative matches can help you keep your costs low.

Here's what I mean...

Phrase Match - If you enter your keyword in quotation marks, as in "tennis shoes," your
ad will appear when a user searches on the phrase tennis shoes, in this order, and possibly with other terms in the query. For example, your ad will appear for the query red tennis shoes but not for the phrase "shoes for tennis". Phrase matching is more targeted than broad matching, but slightly more flexible than exact matching.

Exact Match - If you surround your keywords in brackets-such as [tennis shoes]-your ads
will appear when users search for the specific phrase "tennis shoes", in this order, and without any other terms in the query.

For example, your ad won't show for the query red tennis shoes. Exact matching is the most
targeted option.

Negative Keyword - If your keyword is tennis shoes and you make it a negative keyword by
adding a minus sign such as "-red", your ad will not appear when a user searches on "red tennis shoes". It allows you to eliminate unwanted keywords.

By applying more focused matching options to your keywords, you can reach the most
appropriate prospects, reduce your cost-per-click (CPC), and increase your ROI.

With that in mind, there is also one extremely powerful piece of software that top
marketers have been desperately trying to keep under the radar.

It gives you the ability to take one keyword and turn it into over 65,000 in less than 10
seconds.

Here's the best part...

They are ALL ultra targeted!

Furthermore, you can also use the same strategies we talked about above with the
phrase, exact and negative keyword matching. It really gives you tremendous power with your PPC advertising.

It's called GeoKeyword Generator.

If you are serious about advertising your products and services online, it really is a
must have tool.

There are a lot of other powerful features and I recommend you take a look.

http://geokeywords.generatorsoftware.com

Enjoy!

P.S
I don't think I mentioned that you can not only target country and states or provinces but also things like cities, towns, populations and so much more. It even generates the list of cities and states (including abbreviations) for you so you don't have to know any of these ahead of time!

7 Important Web Terms Every Business Owner Should Know...

1. Search Engine Rankings: The position a website has on a search results page when a particular keyword is searched for. One should only be concerned with rankings for Google, Yahoo and MSN Search at this time, as other engines either do not have material amounts of traffic, or are actually driven by one of the big three search engines.

2. Search Engine Marketing: The marketing of one's website through a search engine, whether through paid search or search engine optimization. Abbreviated as SEM.

3. Search Engine Optimization: Techniques used to improve a website's rankings in the search engines. Consists of on-page optimization, indexing improvements and link building. Abbreviated as SEO.

4. Flog: A fake blog, generally created to promote for a particular company, product, or idea.

5. Inbound Links: Links coming into a site from another site.

6. Paid Search: An advertising method that involves the purchasing of traffic from search engines. Advertising is attached to individual keywords and is generally purchased via a pay per click financial model

7. Local Search: Any of a number of search engine marketing techniques that cater to geographically specific businesses (e.g. plumbers, doctors and restaurants etc...). Local search can be either paid search advertising or natural search listings.

Google Reaches Deal with Clear Channel..

Google Reaches Deal With Clear Channel to Sell Radio Ads

By LOUISE STORY
Published: April 16, 2007
Resource: http://www.nytimes.com

Google will begin selling advertisements across all of the stations of Clear Channel Communications, the No. 1 radio station owner in the United States, at the end of June, the companies will announce today.

Google has been working for months to expand its ad sales operation into traditional media like newspapers, radio and television. To do so, it needs traditional media companies to allow it to sell some of their ads, and it had seemed to be making little progress in radio.

But the partnership with Clear Channel represents a step forward for Google. The deal will run for several years, and will give Google access to just under 5 percent of Clear Channel’s commercial time. That will include 30-second spots on all of Clear Channel’s 675 stations during all programs and all times of the day, executives at both companies said in interviews yesterday.

The companies did not disclose the financial details of the arrangement, except to say that Clear Channel would receive the majority of the ad revenue.

Are You Ready to Start Your Own Business?
By Brent Bowers, May & June 2007

Out of ambition or necessity, more than a million boomers every year start working for themselves. Find out whether you have a head for business

All her life, Barbara Thornton put up with a nagging problem: her shoes. Why, she wondered, could she never find size 11½ shoes? She knew many women in the same predicament who either put up with tight fits or did their shopping in the men’s department.

In 1995—at age 48, fresh out of Harvard Business School, after a long career in public policy—she saw a business opportunity in her fellow sufferers’ frustrations. Two years later, she launched DesignerShoes.com, which sells more than 50 brands of footwear in hard-to-find sizes up to 15WW. “A great book inspired me,” Barbara says. “I read Composing a Life by Mary Catherine Bateson,” which profiled five highly successful women, “and I thought to myself, ‘It’s not too late.’”

As ingenious and adventurous as Barbara is, her midlife leap to business owner is actually a move that more and more people her age are making. In the United States, people 55 through 64 years old are more likely than anyone else to start a company, according to a study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri, a center for research and education in entrepreneurship. The same study showed that in a single month in 2005 nearly 110,000 folks in that age range hung out a shingle, stepping away from established careers, starting a sideline, or “unretiring.” That’s more than 1 million graying entrepreneurs born—or reborn—each year.

Web Page Meta Tag Tips...

Having a Search Engine Friendly Title Meta Tag specific to every web page on your website is extremely important and is widely used by the The Search Engine’s, most importantly Google. Make it between 5-10 words and put your best Keyword/Phrase at the beginning e.g. ‘Describe Page Content’.

The Description Meta Tag should be less than 150 characters in order to suit all Search Engines. Anything more than this will simply be missed out with some Search Engine’s. The “description” is what most Search Engine’s use to describe your site when listed in its results. Make sure it is ENTICING for potential customers. It should include at least 5 of your best keywords, words of advise... DO NOT just repeat all of them in your “meta tag description”.

Choosing The Proper Shopping Cart For Your Biz...

Recommending a Great Online Shopping Cart Comparison Site...

There are so many different Online Shopping Carts out there, which one is right for you? The truth is no one can tell you which cart or version of a cart is perfect for your business. Only you know your business like you know your business, but we can help you narrow down the field based upon which options you decide you need for an effective internet business. When evaluating different carts, you should keep three things in mind as criteria for selection: costs, functionality, and ease of use.

1. Cost – There is a range of different pricing for online shopping carts. The main difference across all carts is if they have a one time fee, or an ongoing monthly or per transaction fee. Evaluate these options based on the architecture of your business model. It may be better to have monthly fixed costs, rather than upfront fees or vice versa. Be sure to familiarize yourself with any contract terms before you commit to a cart.

2. Functionality – Each internet business has different functional requirements. A site that sells software via downloads will not need a shipping cost calculator in their cart, and similarly a site selling Beanie Babies will not need a digital download function in their cart. You can use CartCompare.com’s Cart Functions page to research the different available options. This should help you decide which functions best suit your particular business needs.

3. Ease of Use – Everyone has a different level of computer skill, and different carts may frustrate or confuse based upon that level of skill. There are carts that offer a minimum of different options and functions that are perfect for users that may not feel comfortable with a multitude of options, but these same carts would frustrate a more advanced user due to the lack of options. The opposite could be said about the more complex carts. Use the guide on the cart comparison page or visit the cart’s homepage to determine if the cart is right for your level of computer skill.

5 Search Engine Optimization Terms You Must Know!

The Following 5 (SEO) Search Engine Optimization Terms are very important for anyone with a Website to learn about. These Terms are from a Fantastic Resource Site called: www.Webopedia.com.

1. HTML

Short for HyperText Transfer Protocol, the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web. HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands. For example, when you enter a URL in your browser, this actually sends an HTTP command to the Web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested Web page.

2. Meta Tag
A special HTML tag that provides information about a Web page. Unlike normal HTML tags, meta tags do not affect how the page is displayed. Instead, they provide information such as who created the page, how often it is updated, what the page is about, and which keywords represent the page's content. Many search engines use this information when building their indices.

3. RSS
Short for RDF Site Summary or Rich Site Summary, an XML format for syndicating Web content. A Web site that wants to allow other sites to publish some of its content creates an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A user that can read RSS-distributed content can use the content on a different site. Syndicated content includes such data as news feeds, events listings, news stories, headlines, project updates, excerpts from discussion forums or even corporate information.

4. Site Map
A hierarchical visual model of the pages of a Web site. Site maps help users navigate through a Web site that has more than one page by showing the user a diagram of the entire site's contents. Similar to a book's table of contents, the site map makes it easier for a user to find information on a site without having to navigate through the site's many pages. Also, in SEO, a site map can make it easier for a search engine spider to find all a site's pages.

5. Spider
A program that automatically fetches Web pages. Spiders are used to feed pages to search engines. It's called a spider because it crawls over the Web. Another term for these programs is webcrawler.

Because most Web pages contain links to other pages, a spider can start almost anywhere. As soon as it sees a link to another page, it goes off and fetches it. Large search engines, like Alta Vista, have many spiders working in parallel.

Another Great SEO Copywriting Resource...

SEO Copywriting Techniques That Readers Love
Resource:
www.copyblogger.com

While the reaction to your content off-page has become the critical determining factor when it comes to search engine rankings, your targeted keyword phrase should still appear on the page itself. And while there’s little consensus in this area, having your keyword combinations appear throughout the page copy generally helps search engines further identify the relevancy of the page for those keywords.

The good news is, copywriting best practices can create compelling, engaging content that also contains repeated keywords and phrases. You never want to sacrifice readability in the pursuit of rankings, but given that links are more important than on-page keyword repetition, you should never have to.

Here are a few tips for keyword integration in your copy:

1. Titles

The most important place your keywords should appear is in the title tag of the page. The nice thing about blogging software is that your post or page title will be automatically transformed into both title tags and either an H1 or H2 heading tag as well. Remember, your headline should wrap your keywords in a pithy promise that perfectly communicates what the content has to offer.

This is great information...

What is Link Popularity?

Link Popularity by Webseohelp

What is Link Popularity?

Link Popularity refers to the number of links pointing to your site, from other sites on the web. The Search Engines consider your site important and rank it higher if several other sites link to your site.

The History of Link Popularity and PageRank

History behind Link Popularity and Google PageRank
Web, by its very nature is based on hyperlinks, where sites link to other prominent sites. If you take the logic that you would tend to link to sites that you consider important, in essence, you are casting a vote in favor of the sites that you link to. When hundreds or thousands of sites link to a site, it is logical to assume that such a site would be good and important. Taking this logic further the Google founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page formulated a Search Engine algorithm that shifted the ranking weight to off-page factors. They evolved a formula called PageRank (named after its founder Larry Page ) where the algorithm would count the number of sites that link to a page and assign it an importance score on a scale of 1-10. More the number of sites that link to a page, higher its PageRank.

Google's PageRank is important because it is one of the primary off-page factors that influences your page's ranking in the search engine result pages.

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

How Do Search Engines Index Websites?

Indexing Process of SEO - by SEO Help

There is a lot of speculation about how search engines index websites. The topic is shrouded in mystery about exact working of search engine indexing process since most search engines offer limited information about how they architect the indexing process. Webmasters get some clues by checking their log reports about the crawler visits but are unaware of how the indexing happens or which pages of their website were really crawled.

While the speculation about search engine indexing process may continue, here is a theory, based on experience, research and clues, about how they may be going about indexing 8 to 10 billion web pages even so often or the reason why there is a delay in showing up newly added pages in their index. This discussion is centered around Google, but we believe that most popular search engines like Yahoo and MSN follow a similar pattern.

Google runs from about 10 Internet Data Centers (IDCs), each having 1000 to 2000 Pentium-3 or Pentium-4 servers running Linux OS.

Google has over 200 (some think 'over 1000') crawlers / bots scanning the web each day. These do not necessarily follow an exclusive pattern, which means different crawlers may visit the same site on the same day, not knowing other crawlers have been there before. This is what probably gives a 'daily visit' record in your traffic log reports, keeping web masters very happy about their frequent visits.

Fine-Tuning Local Search for 2007

Small businesses may soon be able to target their online ads to prospective customers who are within a few blocks of their shops - by Jeffrey Gangemi

Karl Murphy, president and co-owner of Carolina Auto Spa, a car wash and automotive detailer with two locations outside Raleigh, N.C., says his business depends on impulse decisions—no one makes an appointment to wash a car. So the company’s entire $4,000 to $5,000 monthly advertising budget is devoted to inspiring high-income prospects in the immediate vicinity to pull in and drop some coin. “Car washes live or die within a five-mile radius. If you put a [compass] and draw around my site, that’s where I advertise,” says Murphy. “My best friends 24 miles away won’t wash at my car wash—and I’d let them do it for free.”

A few months ago, Murphy started spending about $300 a month on Google (GOOG) and Yahoo! (YHOO) pay-per-click advertising. Murphy says the pay-per-click model works reasonably well for his business but it “would be much better if it had more specificity of location.” That way, Murphy says he could target more of the impulse purchasers—real estate agents and other “wired” professionals—who may not live in his area but are there for business with time to kill between appointments.

Online Sales Reach $102B in ‘06, Holiday E-Commerce Nears $25B

Online Sales Reach $102B in 2006...

For the full year 2006, online retail spending (non-travel) reached $102.1 billion, a 24 percent increase from 2005, and online holiday (Nov. 1-Dec. 31) e-commerce accounted for $24.6 billion, up 26 percent from last year, according to comScore Networks.

“2006 was certainly an exceptional year for online retailers as e-commerce spending eclipsed $100 billion for the first time,” said Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore Networks. “The online holiday shopping season of course played a vital role in the year’s success.”

Twelve days during the two-month holiday season broke the $600 million mark for e-commerce spending. Just six days in 2005 reached $500 million in online sales, with the top day registering $556 million (Monday, December 12, 2005).

Wednesday, Dec. 13, marked the heaviest online spending day of 2006 with $667 million, followed by Monday, Dec. 11 ($661 million) and Monday, Dec. 4 ($648 million). Cyber Monday (Nov. 27) was surpassed 11 times during the subsequent weeks of the holiday season.

Having GOOD Title Tags in YOUR Website is a Must!

Title Tags are VERY Important...

The "title tag" in your website HTML is the phrase you choose to name your site. The general rule in framing your title is: 'what's right for people is generally wrong for search engines'. Essentially, you should try to incorporate your major key phrases into the "title tag". Just make a list of them and try to incorporate them in the title. The fact is it really doesn't matter whether your site title is a million miles away from your own name, or the actual name of your business. It's simply a device for gaining the attention of the robots.

A title tag can contain up to twenty words; but more doesn't mean better. Eight to twelve well chosen words is more than sufficient.
For best results, the first (short) phrase of the title tag should be geared towards the human reader, while the remainder can be key words aimed at the robot. Bear in mind that the search engine will display only the first few words of the title tag anyway.

Online Shopping Breaking Records...

Am I surprised with this report?... No! not at all...

Nielsen//NetRatings announced today that the total number of visits to the Holiday eShopping Index grew 20 percent year over year, from 459.5 million to 551.6 million in the week ending December 17th.

The popularity of online holiday shopping has been predicted to increase this year as patrons prefer shopping at home to the hustle and bustle of department stores. In Pricegrabber's 2006 consumer report conducted in October of this year, 92 percent of respondents said they expected to shop and buy more online this year than last year.

The top four online shopping days this year have exceeded 30 million unique users with three of those four days falling within the week ending December 17th. The first day to reach the 30 million threshold was the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, November 29th.

Are You Using Google Web Analytics?

WHAT IS WEB ANALYTICS?
Web analytics is the process of analyzing the behavior of visitors at a web site. The use of
web analytics helps organizations maximize the value of their Internet marketing efforts. By understanding visitor behavior, organizations can tailor their marketing efforts to attract, retain, and grow the value of customers.

WHY ANALYZE WEB SITE TRAFFIC?
There are many reasons why your organization might want to analyze your web site’s traffic. First, you will want to know whether your web site is attracting visitors and whether the investments that you are making in it, both
in time and in money, are
paying off.

Then, you will want to know more about trends on the web site. You need to understand where visitors came from: whether they were referred by a specific search engine, responded to an ad campaign, or used a particular keyword (either pay-per- click or organic). Content developers will want to know which pages and sections are most commonly viewed and how long visitors stay. Your webmaster and IT department will want to see how servers are performing and whether or not visitors are receiving error messages when they access various pages.

Lastly, you should learn as much as possible about individual visitors, including their names, companies, email addresses, telephone numbers, and geographic location so you can leverage this information for targeted content and marketing activities. You will also want to see what each of these individuals did on your web site, such as whether they filled out online forms, made purchases, or if they fall into any other visitor behavior segments that have been defined for your web site.

With Google Web Analytics, you can get the answers to the tough web questions... I highly recommend you look into using this Totally Free Web Analytics Tool.

Holiday Season 2006 Online Marketing - Are you Ready?

Successful Holiday Internet marketing campaigns are within the reach of any business, no matter what your budget. By following a few basic marketing tips you can create a cost effective Holiday marketing campaign.

Tip #1 - A Holiday Email Marketing Campaign - Can help you stand out in the crowd. It's all about being on top of your customers' minds and making their lives easier over the holidays. Offer your customers early bird specials, coupons, free shipping, time limited sales and countdown offers through December. Since shipping fees are a major obstacle to online sales, consider featuring reduced shipping at your online store this season.

Tip #2 - Weekly E-zine Sends - Time to breathe life into that current and potential client email list. Read up on your CAN-SPAM laws and get sending. Start now and stay in the forefront of their minds all the way through December.
Be sure to promote your website at all your holiday events, in your E-zine and in any and all ads and marketing pieces that you distribute between now and Christmas. Most important, be sure your site is ready to receive holiday visitors.

Tip #3 - Make the Gift Purchasing Process Convenient and EASY - Offer gift certificates, if you can. Although they can be issued online, many people like to give a physical certificate presented in a special envelope. Offer gift wishlists? Many people shop for themselves and give their loved ones suggestions. Make it easy for them to do it on your site. Categorize your products to make shopping for gifts easier. Use titles like "For Her," "For Him," "Gifts under $50," "Holiday Specials," etc.

I highly recommend you read this article: "Websites Brace for Holiday Shoppers" posted at: www.marketingvox.com
